It's your business
Backing up your data is your responsibility. Well, honestly you have to agree with this statement don't you? After all who does your data belong to - you, or your website developer or hosting provider. Who loses out when it fails - everyone else, or just YOU?
There is not a day goes by when I don't hear of someone, somewhere losing their business or their ability to operate efficiently because they never backed up their data on their PC, their website, or their memory stick. Why would you not do that? Why would you put in 6 months work and pay out hundreds or even thousands of pounds and then 'woosh!' suddenly its all gone because of the lack of simple back-up.... stupid!
Doing a back-up of your data folder/s can often be as simple as copying the folder from one PC to a memory stick or visi versi. Copying your website every time it changes is often a simple procedure and one that only takes a few minutes, but could save you £thousands in lost revenue and extra valuable time rebuilding your website from scratch.
At Parrot Hosting we back-up daily and weekly but, it is not our responsibility to protect your website from hacks, viruses or bad coding any of which can bring down your site and others with it. Our sole responsibility is personal survival, to ensure the ability to keep our business up and running in the event of a system crash and that means protecting as far as we can the integrity of our servers and that also by default means your site/s.
Your site however, is always your responsibility and you should as a very minimum keep a periodic back-up that is clean and tested - i.e. it has been used to re-install the site and is complete and working. It should NEVER be left to a 3rd party to protect you and your business. it is after all, YOUR business.
